Liner Notes:
Pete Fountain is a product of New Orleans, the home of dixieland jazz. His dad played with various bands around Biloxi, Mississippi during Pete's childhood.
Pete started playing the clarinet with his school hand in 1942, then into the Junior Dixieland Jazz Band. He spent some time with Phil Zito, this was in 1949, with the Basin Street Six, 1950 through 1954; then his own group, "Pete Fountain and his Three Coins". Heard mostly in New Orleans, he did make trips to Chicago, for club dates, then to California, where he joined the Lawrence Welk organization for two years and headed up a dixieland group within the orchestra.
These sides show Pete at his peak, in 1957. Listen and see if you don't agree.
